l’arte del mondo, the Pera Ensemble and conductor Werner Ehrhardt present a fascinating intercultural encounter between the musical traditions of the Orient and the Occident – a captivating concert experience in which the boundaries between cultures dissolve and merge harmoniously. Under the title “Haymat - A Festival of Melodies,“ masterpieces by Mahler and Schubert, set to equally wonderful texts by Rückert and Goethe, are combined with the beauty of the Ottoman musical tradition of Ismail Hakki, Aleko Bacanos and compositions by Mehmet C. Yeşilçay. Friedrich Rückert and Johann Wolfgang Goethe were greatly fascinated by the Orient and wrote about it extensively. Rückert worked on the first translation of the Koran into German from 1819, while Goethe adapted the “Dīwān” by the Persian poet Hafiz (born in 1325) based on a translation and published the collection in 1819 under the title “West-östlicher Divan”. In 1822, Rückert, who by then had mastered several Middle-Eastern languages, responded to Goethe’s publication with a volume of poetry, “Östliche Rosen.”

The program features l’arte del mondo on historical instruments, Pera Ensemble with Turkish instruments, Benjamin Bruns (tenor) and Selin Yüçesoy (soprano) – two internationally renowned vocal soloists, as well as two choirs from Leverkusen: Türkischer Gesangverein Leverkusen and the male chorus l'arte del mondo.

The audience is immersed in a distant world full of exoticism and magic, in which European and Turkish traditions are combined in a poetic and lyrical manner. The resulting musical journey celebrates the diversity of cultures and brings the universal power of music to life in all its splendor.
