One Night in the Desert – A Journey to the Orient

A fascinating encounter between Orient and Occident. Highly ethereal compositions by the outstanding Israeli artist and world musician Yair Dalal, as well as works by Mozart, Elgar, Tchaikovsky and Grieg, transport you into the night and world of dreams.

The great Israeli musician of Iraqi-Jewish descent has already won several notables prizes. In 2000, he was nominated for a Grammy as part of Jordi Savall’s ensemble and for the BBC World Music Award for his musical achievements as the best musician in the Middle East.

Yair Dalal, a composer, violinist, oud player and singer, is at home in classical European music as well as jazz and Arabic music. Dalal creates his music by interweaving the tradition of Iraqi and Jewish-Arabic music with a range of influences from culturally diverse areas such as the Balkans and India. His music also conveys his great affinity with the desert and its inhabitants. A potpourri of moods, scales, rhythms and instruments are woven into a beautiful oriental tapestry that opens our hearts and souls with its rich sounds.

Mitteldeutsche Zeitung:
